i hate the current web skfgjhdfg

choose from, browsers:

  • spyware with good profiles and duplicating extensions everywhere
  • ungoogled chromium that prompts to enter your password like chromium does, setting google as search bar is obnoxious, duplicate extensions
  • stinky fox that doesn’t know profiles, corporation backstabs its ideals, extensions good
  • onion thing good for black market, slow for everything else
  • compass browser, this safari didn’t have lots of lions nor elephants, extensions a hassle
  • lion thingie (not a safari tho)full with crypto, efficient adblocker in rust, duplicate extensions, profiles themes/icons sux

@aliss otter browser, epiphany, konqueror, netsurf, pale moon, badwolf?

@aliss inb4 wewee le gnome bad blobdrool
>implying qt is good

@aliss epiphany is finally quite good nowadays, iirc it even finally started to hibernate tabs

@mononoaware is epiphany multi-platform / support profiles?

@aliss ok so I know it at least supports creating multiple "app" instances (similar to Chromium's 'install' button) which will be isolated from one another and the browser.

@aliss it is purpose-built for gnome, but has no deps on any of its' components. also the only browser I have to explicitly `dbus-launch` disappointed when using a tiling compositor (prob some misconfig). it is available in macports
https://ports.macports.org/port/epiphany/
idk about profiles

@aliss what do you mean when you say Firefox doesn't support profiles? The developer edition has container tabs but also you can do "firefox --new-instance" to open it with the profile selector, I have a small script I use to launch it that way https://github.com/meme-lord/dotfiles/blob/master/bin/other_firefox

You can create a new profile in about:profiles as well. For toggling all the different settings I found https://ffprofile.com useful.

@0daystolive great question!
i'll explain:

@aliss I get this menu every time I start FF. I'm not sure how I configured it this way but it's a thing. I do see your point though, the UX for it could be a lot better.

@0daystolive ohhhh that seems cozy
